March 16, 2020

Dear Parents and Staff,

Aurora R-VIII personnel have been working with both the Lawrence and Barry County Health Departments regarding the current COVID-19 issue.  Based on their direction, the Aurora R-VIII School District will close beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 extending through Friday, April 3, 2020.  The situation will be reevaluated at that time, and if cleared by the departments, classes will resume on Monday, April 6, 2020.  This closure will apply to all aspects of student involvement.  All co-curricular and extracurricular practices and events are cancelled until school resumes.

This decision was made after careful consideration regarding student and staff health.  I apologize for the great hardship caused for students, parents, teachers and staff.  The following supports will be provided during the closing.

  • Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Grab and Go Meals will be provided for all students.  These meals will be available for pick up daily between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at the Robinson Elementary School entry.  Each meal will include lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following morning.  Any student age 18 and under is eligible.  (*This institution is an equal opportunity provider.)
  • Instructional resources will be provided for parents and guardians to continue working with their children.  Further communication will be provided when these resources are available for pick up.  Please understand these alternative methods will be opportunities for enrichment and learning, not requirements.
  • The Central Office will be open daily for questions and concerns.  When possible, please communicate by phone or email.

These are unprecedented times and I ask for your understanding as together we navigate the situation.  Please be vigilant in following the preventative measures to stop the transmission of this condition and the flu in general.

Sincerely,

Billy Redus

Superintendent
