Hot News
I am excited to report that the ALC has been awarded not one, but two grants from Community Foundation of the Ozarks. The first will be used for Child Development resources in our FACS class, the second will be to support Project Ignite: Reading and Writing.
Upcoming Events
The ALC will be holding our next family night on Tuesday March 17th at 5pm. ALC students and families are invited to join us for a meal and conversations about the progress of our students and to celebrate their successes.
Class Spotlight
World History
First up is congratulations to the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks for reversing history as they defeated the Patriots this NFL SEAson. In other historical news: our World History class recently completed our first test (Revolutions: American and French) of the new semester. Opportunities to learn were abundant and many students did very well. Currently we are learning about some ideologies, social reforms, nationalism and other European and American events that led up to World War 1.
Government
In January Mrs. Pope’s Government class learned about landmark court cases that focus on the First and Fourteenth amendments. In February they will focus on how a bill becomes a law in the legislative branch, political parties, and voting process.
Writing Challenge
Mr. Lee’s February Writing Challenge is in full swing! Students kicked off their stories with the line: “She said yes on Valentine’s Day and regretted it by morning.” From there, they chose one of three creative paths — Secret Mission, The Blackmail, or The Stranger at Midnight — to build suspense, character, and plot. It’s been exciting to see students stretch their imaginations, experiment with tone, and turn one sentence into powerful storytelling.
